As mentioned last week, Deer Valley Resort is replacing its Deer Crest chairlift with a new high-speed detachable quad as part of $8 million in improvements to be made this summer. This new lift, which will now be called Mountaineer Express, will increase the number of skiers who are carried up Little Baldy Mountain by 1,200 skiers per hour.

Other improvements at the resort include:

  1. Remodeling Snow Park Restaurant to make the food service much more efficient
  2. Replacing the wooden decks at Empire Canyon Lodge with heated pavers
  3. Expanding snowmaking in Empire Canyon
  4. Installing more energy-efficient snowmaking guns
  5. Buying five more grooming machines.
According to Bob Wheaton, president and general manager of the resort, "Deer Valley Resort is dedicated to remaining the Number 1 resort in North America," referring to Deer Valley’s Number 1 ranking five years in a row in Ski magazine. "We are continually assessing needed improvements that will be the most advantageous to our guests."
